JioCinema signs another major streaming deal to take on rivals Netflix, Disney
Jio Cinema is signing deal after deal to reduce the dominance of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar in the country. Recently, the company had partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery regarding the premium content of Hollywood. Now the company has approved another deal. Actually, Jio Cinema has signed a deal with NBC Universal Media this time.
One thing is clear from all these deals that the company wants to make every major Hollywood movie and series available on its platform. So that if the Indian viewer wants to see something, then they do not go here and there but come directly to their platform.
Both the companies informed about the deal through a joint statement. The deal will give Jio Cinema users access to popular shows like Downton Abbey, Suits and The Office.
Apart from premium sports content, the way Reliance is trying to increase popular content on its platform. This will have a big impact on the OTT streaming space. At present, India’s OTT market is mainly occupied by foreign companies. JioCinema has only one premium plan for the customers and the subscription for one year costs Rs 999.
